The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) cordially invites the media to the launch of the first Africa Human Development Report 2012 (AHDR) titled “Towards a Food Secure Future” to be held on Friday 25th May 2012, at National College of Tourism, Bustani Campus Conference room, Shaaban Robert Street, Adjacent to International House, at 0900am.
The report will be launched by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Janeth Mbene. Invited guests includes members of the diplomatic corps, academicians, government officials and the media.
UNDP's Africa Human Development Report 2012 argues that human development in sub-Saharan Africa can only be fully realized when there is food security for all. Noting that this is an issue that goes beyond agriculture, the report explores the interlocking themes of agricultural productivity, nutrition, resilience and empowerment through the powerful prism of human development.
The report shows that food security and human development reinforce each other. To accelerate food security, countries in sub-Saharan Africa must boost agricultural productivity and enhance nutrition to improve availability, access and use of food.
The Africa Human Development Report is an editorially independent publication of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
